Astros Players Still Not Taking Accountability for Sign Stealing After AJ Hinch Interview is Embarrassing
Former Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch conducted an interview with MLB Network that was not quite an admission of guilt, nor a proper apology. But Hinch did at least take some accountability and acknowledge that he let things get out of control in regards to the Astros' sign-stealing scandal.
Hinch stands alone in that regard, however, as current Astros players continue to pretend like nothing happened, even after their own manager and GM have been fired. Considering Hinch just went in front of a national audience and accepted responsibility for his actions, it's become even more apparent just how overdue those steps are from the players who were involved.
Whether or not Hinch's answers in the interview pleased listeners, the fact that he was willing to accept responsibility for his actions is still something. No Astros player has seemed even remotely remorseful for the cheating scandal, with the exception of Dallas Keuchel, who is now two teams removed from his tenure in Houston.
Guys like Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman, whose names have been at the forefront of the scandal, need to step up and make amends.
Players were largely involved in the operation, yet none of them have been punished. Even an apology for ruining the integrity of the game would be a nice start, but the complete radio silence on their part shows who these Astros players really are.
