3 Astros Players Who Will Hit Their Peak in 2020
The Houston Astros remain the team to beat in the American League even after all the fallout from the sign-stealing scandal. The team is still intact with the only major subtraction being Gerrit Cole. The Astros are filled with both young and veteran talent and several players are poised to hit their respective peaks in 2020.
3. Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2015 after playing in 99 games. He was an All-Star in 2017, but injuries limited him to 109 games. He is a rising star who has averaged only 109.2 games per season. A larger sample size of work for Correa could hit set a new career-high in WAR, with his current high being 7.0 in 2016 when he appeared in 153 games.
2. Ryan Pressly
Ryan Pressly made his first ever All-Star Game in 2019, but he was limited to just 54.1 innings. A year prior he logged 71 innings and had a career-high 101 strikeouts. If he keeps his ERA at or below the 2019 mark of 2.32 and logs enough innings he is capable of setting a new career-best in WAR. His current best came last year with a mark of 1.7. More strikeouts should come as well for a pitcher whose K/9 has been in the double-digits each of the past two seasons.
1. George Springer
George Springer is playing for a new contract in 2020. He is likely going to be too expensive for the Astros and needs to prove to the world that he deserves a mega-deal. Springer has made three straight All-Star Games and posted a new high in WAR last year with a mark of 6.4. However, he only appeared in 122 games. He is capable of proving himself, even should the season be shortened, based on his current trajectory.
