The Houston Astros are one of the favorites to end up in the Fall Classic, but they'll need to make an addition or two, including a starter, to make that a reality.

According to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News, the Astros are scouting Detroit Tigers left-handed starter Matthew Boyd "hard" leading up to the deadline.

Despite struggling recently, Boyd is having a career year, owning a 3.87 ERA with 142 strikeouts over 107 innings in 18 starts this season. What makes him even more attractive is the fact he's under team control through 2022.

At the moment, the Tigers may be asking more for Boyd that the Astros are willing to give, but Houston can't afford to let that get in their way of going after another World Series title. Gerrit Cole is a free agent following this season and is unlikely to return, so they need to add a controllable starter who could sit atop the rotation.
