Astros Shut Down Carlos Correa for Remainder of Regular Season
By Scott Rogust
The Houston Astros are playing it safe with their star players with October baseball on the horizon.
Manager AJ Hinch revealed that shortstop Carlos Correa has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season. However, Hinch expects Correa will be ready for Game 1 of the ALDS.
Correa has been dealing with back issues recently, resulting in him being scratched from Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Hinch mentioned that the player visited a doctor in Los Angeles on Thursday, but no serious issues were found.
2019 has been an unlucky year for Correa in terms of health. Back in May, he missed two months after fracturing a rib during a massage. Once his rib was healed, the shortstop began developing back discomfort, resulting in him missing around a month, officially returning on Sept. 17.
Through 75 games this season, Correa accumulated a .279 batting average, .358 on-base percentage, and .568 slugging percentage, along with 21 home runs and 59 RBI.
Hinch and the Houston Astros hope the extra rest will pay off for Carlos Correa, as they enter the MLB postseason with World Series aspirations.
