Astros Slugger Yordan Alvarez Unanimously Voted 2019 AL Rookie of the Year
By Michael Luciano
The Houston Astros found an absolute gem in Yordan Alvarez, who did nothing but mash once he was called up from Triple-A.
Alvarez's historic season was officially given the accolade it deserves, as he was a unanimous recipient of the 2019 American League Rookie of the Year award.
Alvarez hit .313 with 27 home runs, 53 extra base hits, and 78 RBIs in just 87 games. While he struggled in the ALCS, he racked up seven hits, including a home run, in the World Series against the Washington Nationals.
Alvarez joined shortstop Carlos Correa and Hall of Fame first baseman Jeff Bagwell as the only Astros to win Rookie of the Year, and he became the first player in team history to win the award unanimously.
Not a bad return for Josh Fields in a trade, eh?
Alvarez is set up to dominate the AL for years to come. The sky is the limit for this Astros team with the 22-year-old in the heart of the lineup.
