Astros' Yordan Alvarez Being Sued by Dominican Investor for Alleged Breach of Contract
By Ryan Flores

Houston Astros phenom Yordan Álvarez could be in a lot of trouble.
The potential American League Rookie of the Year is being sued by Manuel Azcona, a Dominican investor, over an apparent breach of contract. Álvarez was reportedly expected to pay 30% of his contrat ($480,000) to Azcona per a previous agreement, but has yet to do so, per insider Francys Romero.
Alvarez immigrated from Cuba in 2015 and his parents were guarantors of the contract, due to the fact he was a minor. The suit was filed in July of 2019 and the judgement is expected to be recognized in the United States. The plaintiff is asking for 40M in restitution.

Álvarez immigrated from Cuba in 2015, and his parents were the guarantors of his contract since he was a minor at the time the deal was signed. At this time, it is not known why Álvarez and his parents would sign such a strange deal with Azcona. Regardless, it presents a major bump in the road, as Azcona is seeking $40 million in restitution.
The restitution number undoubtedly has Álvarez concerned, as he has yet to earn the huge payday that is likely coming to him in the future. However, he has no choice but to remain focused on the task at hand-- winning the World Series.

Hopefully, Álvarez and Azcona can settle the dispute soon and keep things from getting exceedingly ugly.
