The Oakland Athletics head to Houston on Monday for the opening matchup of a three-game set vs. the Astros. The series will be crucial for the A's as they attempt to close the 6.5 game gap in the AL West.

Athletics Lineup

Veteran right-hander Homer Bailey (8-6, 4.69 ERA) will take the hill for Oakland on Monday, looking to build off his first start in an Athletics' uniform. He was acquired from the Royals earlier in the month, making his first start for the A's on July 17.

Rookie first baseman Yordan Alvarez has lived up to lofty expectations in 29 games so far this season, batting .333 with 10 home runs and an incredible 33 RBI. George Springer leads off for the 'Stros, followed by Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Michael Brantley and Alvarez.

The Astros will send hard-throwing righty Gerrit Cole to the mound, and he's been fantastic since a bumpy start to the season. Since the start of June, the three-time All-Star has pitched to a remarkable ERA of 2.02, going at least 6 innings in every appearance. He has 194 strikeouts in 129.2 innings this season.
