Auburn 'Kick Six' Hero Chris Davis Honors Radio Announcer Rod Bramblett Following His Tragic Death
By Sam Dunn
There may never be a single play in Auburn Tigers football history more iconic, thrilling and utterly out of nowhere than the incredible Kick Six. With the clock showing all zeroes in the 2013 Iron Bowl, Auburn's Chris Davis grabbed a missed Alabama field goal nine yards deep in the end zone and took it all the way back, shocking the No. 1 Tide and sending the Plains into pandemonium.
Sadly, the Tiger program will never be the same now that celebrated radio announcer Rod Bramblett tragically lost his life along with his wife in a fatal car accident Saturday. But count Davis among those who will never forget Bramblett, whose call of the famous Kick Six will live on forever in Auburn lore.
In so many ways, Bramblett is almost as much a part of the legacy of the Kick Six as Davis himself, as the energy and passion that oozed out of him behind the microphone as the incredible play unfolded perfectly captures the particular pageantry of college football at it's very best.
Watch it. Drink it in.
"Davis is gonna run it all the way back! Auburn's gonna win the football game! Auburn's gonna win the football game! He ran the missed field goal back! He ran it back 109 yards! They're not going to keep them off the field tonight! Holy Cow!"
College football won't be the same without Bramblett. Chris Davis' legacy, as well as that of the 2013 SEC champs which went on to play for the national title, is forever linked with his magical radio call. Fortunately, his voice will live on long, long after we're all gone.
