Austin Hooper's Contract Details With Browns Revealed
By Karl Rasmussen
The Cleveland Browns landed the gem of the tight end market by signing former Atlanta Falcon Austin Hooper to a deal that is reportedly set to make him the highest-paid player at his position.
Well, reports have since surfaced indicating what that contract is going to look like. The 25-year-old will earn $44 million on a four-year deal with the Browns, with $23 million guaranteed.
Hooper's new annual salary of $11 million surpasses Travis Kelce's current deal with the Chiefs, on which he's currently earning $9.36 million per season. He'll also make more than Hunter Henry, who was franchise tagged by the Chargers and is now due $10.6 million in 2020.
In 2019, Hooper was selected to his second consecutive Pro Bowl after recording 75 receptions, 787 yards and six touchdowns. He missed three games to injury but still managed to put up some of the best numbers in the league for a tight end.
The Browns opened up their wallet to bring Hooper aboard, which likely means David Njoku's time in Cleveland is nearing its end. Meanwhile, they added another prolific weapon to the mix for Baker Mayfield to target in 2020 as the team looks to push for the playoffs.
