Babe Ruth’s 500th Home Run Bat Was Auctioned for $1 Million
By Chris Pyo
71 years after his death, Babe Ruth continues to captivate the sporting world with his otherworldly baseball records.
That couldn't have been more evident in recent days with the announcement that the bat he used to hit his 500th home run was sold at auction for a staggering $1 million dollars.
Can anyone find and verify the bats Ruth used to hit his 600th and 700th home runs as well, if they haven't already been discovered and preserved?
$1 million is a significant amount of money. Props to the buyer for purchasing something that they obviously valued a ton. They officially own a very unique piece of MLB history.
The bat was sold through SCP auctions for exactly $1,000,800 to an unidentified buyer. It had originally been given to the former mayor of Suffern, New York, Jim Rice, as a gift from Ruth. The family finally decided to depart with the bat and make a little money in the process.
This isn't the only time a piece of Babe Ruth memorabilia has sold for an absurd amount of money. Just this past summer, one of his game-used uniforms was expected to sell for $4.5 million at an auction.
