Baker Mayfield Admits He Said a Lot of Really Stupid Stuff This Season
By Michael Luciano
The Cleveland Browns had a boatload of talent entering 2019, but Freddie Kitchens couldn't figure out how to put all the puzzle pieces together. That ineptitude led to a 6-10 season, the firing of Kitchens and a noticeable statistical regression from Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield himself apologized for letting the outside noise get to him, stating he said a lot of things he really shouldn't have over the course of the 2019 campaign.
“I have to be me, but I don’t need to reply to the stuff on the outside," Mayfield added.
This humble statement has surprised many in the media, including Mayfield's sworn enemy, Colin Cowherd. Cowherd, who rips Mayfield to the point where it's almost mean-spirited on his radio show, praised him for showing maturity.
Has hell frozen over?
No one is saying Mayfield should turn down being animated or change his style of play. That's what won him a Heisman and got him picked No. 1 overall. The main criticism of Mayfield was that his anger is often directed at people that shouldn't be worth his time. If he can put that in the past, look for Baker to come back strong in 2020.
