Baker Mayfield Instantly Dismisses Duke Johnson's Trade Request at Browns Camp
By Michael Luciano
Despite the fact that Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson has very publicly demanded a trade following the emergence of Nick Chubb and the signing of Kareem Hunt (and reiterated such demands on Tuesday), quarterback Baker Mayfield is insisting that this won't be a distraction for the Browns.
While Mayfield did call the trade request "self-inflicted," he affirmed that Johnson being in camp isn't awkward at all.
Selected 77th overall in the 2015 Draft out of Miami, Johnson has been one of the most underrated pass-catching backs in the league over the last four years. While he's piled up only 1,286 yards and five touchdowns on the ground over the last four years, his 2,170 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver make him a hot commodity on the trade market.
If a team needs a third down, change of pace running back, or a pass catcher in the James White mold, Johnson is just sitting there in Cleveland.
The Johnson-Hunt-Chubb trio would have been a treat to watch, but Johnson seems determined to force his way out of northeast Ohio in favor of some more playing time.
Be careful what you wish for, Duke.
