Orioles' Trey Mancini Undergoing 'Non-Baseball Medical Procedure' Sounds Concerning
By Sean Facey
One of the few bright spots for the Baltimore Orioles over the past couple of seasons has been star outfielder Trey Mancini. Unfortunately, though the details are still scarce, his status has taken a negative turn.
The O's announced via mananger Brandon Hyde that their blossoming star is scheduled to undergo a "non-baseball medical procedure" in what sounds like a troubling turn of events at Spring Training.
While it's unfair to speculate, the fact that the Orioles are remaining this tight-lipped about the situation suggests that Mancini is dealing with a significant issue that will require some time.
Mancini was arguably Baltimore's sole quality hitter last year. Among qualified batters on the team, his .899 OPS was the only mark above .800 on the entire team. He also led the team in home runs (35) and runs batted in (97).
You don't have to be a Baltimore fan to root for Mancini and wish him the very best as he deals with this latest setback.
Mancini is one of the brightest young stars in the game, and a vital member of this Orioles team. It's uncomfortable to think of what the future, even simply the immediate future, would look like without him.
The obvious hope, however, is that above all else, he comes out the other side with his health in a good place. That's what is most important, and the baseball world is fully in his corner.
