Bart Starr's Response to a Disgruntled Fan's Letter is Absolutely Incredible
By Jerry Trotta
With good reason, the recently-deceased Bart Starr is amongst the most celebrated quarterbacks in NFL history. During his playing days, Starr was an MVP, two-time Super Bowl Champ, five-time NFL Champ, and four-time Pro-Bowler with the Packers.
That resume will go down as one of the most decorated in football history, but where the late Hall of Famer is less championed, however, is on the coaching side of his career. In nine seasons as Green Bay's head coach, he compiled a lowly 52-76-3 record.
In the wake of his death over the weekend, a 1976 letter that Starr wrote to a disgruntled fan emerged on Twitter, and it's absolutely the best thing you will ready today, perfectly showing the proper way to deal with criticism. Have a look.
The gist of the letter read, "We are sorry to lose you as a fan, of course, but what is sadder is the example you are setting for your own sons. I hope, while you are re-directing their young minds in the future, you will include tolerance so that when you occasionally err or unintentionally disappoint them, they will not lose their faith in you."
Even former Packer Ryan Grant is loving every second of the touching, memorable message about maintaining humanity amid professional struggles.
Even after reading what was surely an unhinged tirade, Starr even thanked the ungrateful fan for his notes on the state of the franchise! If this doesn't summarize just how kind-hearted and amicable Starr was an individual, we don't know what will. The man was just filled with endless goodness.
