Bartolo Colon's Latest Comments Will Make Mets Fans Cry in Happiness
By Max Smith
One of the most beloved athletes in all of sports, Bartolo Colon, revealed that he wants to pitch in 2020 and give his MLB career one last try.
Even better? He provided hope for hapless New York Mets fans, stating he'd loved to retire with the team. Colon played for the Mets for only three seasons, but developed a huge following over that span thanks to his ageless pitching and one electrifying home run.
Statistically, Colon was solid for the Mets. Over his three years with the team, he owned a 3.89 ERA 3.89 and racked up 44 wins. All of that came in his age-40-43 seasons!
Throughout his career, Colon has played for 11 teams, but he has a soft spot in his heart for the Mets. Colon was given the moniker "Big Sexy" by Noah Syndergaard in 2015. He made his fourth All-Star appearance with the Mets in 2016. He even launched his first and only home run of his 21-year career against the Padres in San Diego.
Since leaving New York, Colon has been unable to gain traction with a single organization. He last played in 2018 with the Texas Rangers. Since he left the Mets, Colon has started games for the Braves, Twins and Rangers.
At 46, it would be extraordinary if Colon could return to the Mets, log one more solid campaign, and hang up his cleats in Queens.
