Baseball America's Grades for 16-Year-Old Yankees Prospect Jasson Dominguez Prove He's an Alien
By Michael Luciano
The New York Yankees have had some major boons in the international free agent market over the last few years (Luis Severino comes to mind), but they might have pulled off their greatest heist yet when they secured the signature of 16-year-old wonderkid Jasson Dominguez.
Dominguez is on track to be a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. type prodigy if his Baseball America 20-80 scale ratings are anything to go by. Barely old enough for a learner's permit, he already is said to have well above-average contact, power, and speed.
A five-tool player if they're ever was one. And these aren't projections. This is right now.
While Baseball America has Dominguez ranked as the Yankees' top prospect, Baseball Prospectus has him at No. 2, behind right-handed starter Deivi Garcia. MLB Pipeline has Dominguez ranked second among Yankee prospects, and No. 66 in all of baseball.
Just to reiterate, this is for a 16-year-old who has yet to play in a professional game.
It'll be a long while before Dominguez ever sees an MLB field, but the Yankees might be sitting on something truly special here.
