Baseball HOF Features Traced Baseball Which Mariano Rivera Used to Help Roy Halladay With Cutter
By Scott Rogust
The 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame induction takes place this upcoming Sunday, which is headlined by the first ever unanimous inductee Mariano Rivera and the late, great Roy Halladay.
Two of this generation's best pitchers famously interacted in the 2008 MLB All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium. Halladay approached Rivera to ask him how he threw his famous cutter. The New York Yankees closer obliged by tracing his grip onto a baseball, gifting it to the then-Toronto Blue Jays ace. In fact, Halladay carried that ball with him for the remainder of his career in order to perfect the pitch.
Now, that very baseball will forever be enshrined at Cooperstown, as a gift from Halladay's widow, Brandy.
That is something that many baseball fans will flock towards as they roam the halls of Cooperstown.
Rivera is renowned as being the best closer of all time, and owns a reputation of being one of the nicest guys in the game. This story backs that up, as Mo helped out a fellow pitcher who asked for his advice on how to throw his devastating cutter.
Halladay, who was already a stud starter at the time of their interaction, benefitted from Rivera's advice, as he carried the knowledge around with him during the latter years of his career with the Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies.
Now, that very baseball will serve as a prominent piece in the inductions of both Mariano Rivera and Roy Halladay this Sunday.
