George Floyd's death in Minnesota has sparked support of the Black community not only in America, but throughout the entire world. Teams and athletes have been at the forefront of this movement and Bayern Munich is the latest to make a statement.
As Bayern warmed up for their match on Saturday against Bayer Leverkusen, players sported new warmup shirts saying "Reds Against Racism" in German, with the hashtag "Blacklivesmatter."
The shirts are yet another step Bayern Munich has taken in support of the worldwide movement. Munich also released a statement responding to Floyd's death and the global protests, in part saying, "FC Bayern stands for a world in which racism, discrimination, hate, injustice and violence have no place."
Bayern Munich is not the only Bundesliga organization to express support for the Black community either. In the days following Floyd's death, Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho revealed a shirt saying "Justice for George Floyd." Numerous other Bundesliga players have knelt, worm armbands or taken other steps to express their solidarity with the protests, even from the other side of the globe.
Bayern Munich's display, along with the efforts of teams and athletes around the world, emphasizes the remarkable impact of Floyd's death, showing that, as they often do, sports and community have no boundaries.
