Bears and Bengals Have Reportedly Discussed Potential Andy Dalton Trade
By Jack Murphy
Coming into the 2019 NFL season, Chicago Bears fans had a lot to look forward to coming off a season where they won their division. However, things did not go as planned as for Chicago last year, and they struggled to a third-place finish in the NFC East at 8-8. The scapegoat for the underachieving Bears was none-other than their man under center, Mitchell Trubisky, whose woes were a recurring topic of discussion throughout the season.
In response to Trubisky's horrific 2019 campaign, it seems the Bears are interested in pursuing a quarterback this offseason. One name they've recently been linked to is Cincinnati Bengals gunslinger Andy Dalton, per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
As the Bengals have their sights set on selecting Joe Burrow with number one pick of the NFL Draft, it seems they want to see if they can get any return by trading Dalton. The Red Rifle fell out of favor in Cinci after starting 13 games last year, getting replaced by Ryan Finley at the end of the season.
Andy Dalton finished the 2019 campaign with 3,494 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing just 59.5% of his pass attempts.
While Dalton is far from an elite talent, he has the ability to perform when given the correct assets. He lacked those assets in Cincinnati last year, but perhaps the Bears could benefit from pursuing the benefit and having him compete for the starting role with Trubisky.
It's widely expected, and rightfully so, that Joe Burrow will be the man under center in Cincinnati to start the 2020 season, and with the Bears shopping for a quarterback, this looks like a potential match.
