Bears Should Absolutely Be in on Cam Newton if He's on the Market This Offseason
By Andy Loughmiller
Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen has been tremendous this year in Cam Newton's absence. Allen will now remain the starter for the remainder of the season after the Panthers placed Newton on injured reserve. Now that it has been confirmed that Newton will miss the rest of 2019, it could mean that his days in Carolina are numbered.
Newton could potentially find himself playing for a new NFL franchise in what would be his tenth season in the league. Should the Panthers choose to stick with Allen, the Chicago Bears would be a great fit for the former No. 1 overall pick.
Of course, this would also mean that the Bears would have to move on from Mitchell Trubisky after just three seasons. Chicago would be giving up on a player that they intended to be the face of their franchise.
However, this would make a lot of sense for all parties involved. Newton would almost certainly be an upgrade at the position, and nobody in Chicago believes that Trubisky will dramatically improve between years three and four. Furthermore, the Panthers would save a ton of money if they were to part ways with Newton in the offseason.
The Bears need to find a way to get something out of their offense to compliment their extremely talented defense. Newton could be the answer to their problems on that side of the ball.
