Cole Kmet's Old Anti-Cubs Tweet Won't Help His Cause With Bears Fans
The Chicago Bears continued to address the tight end position by drafting Notre Dame's Cole Kmet in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He will come in with high expectations, as the Bears aim to jump-start the offense with either Nick Foles or Mitch Trubisky at quarterback. The pick itself is easy to like, but Kmet's NFL career starting up means his old tweets will inevitably be dug up. In a weird twist of events, Kmet had some anti-Chicago sentiments buried deep in his profile that he's surely wishing he'd deleted.
Uh oh. The tweet is from way back from 2014, but will end up being a point of discussion among Chicago sports fans. Hating the Cubs? Bears fans who are also White Sox fans will love the tweet, but that only covers a portion of the fanbase.
To be fair to Kmet, though, the tweet had more context.
Ah! Just give it two years, Cole.
This is all part of the world we live in. The lesson to be learned here, once again, is to scrub any old tweets that could be even remotely controversial, especially if you will be in the national spotlight. Luckily, this tweet is not vulgar or overtly offensive in nature. Kmet can move on from this quickly and win back the hearts of Cubs fans with a great season in 2020, no problem.
