4 NFL Teams That Should Try to Pull Andrew Luck Out of Retirement
Andrew Luck surprised the NFL world and the Indianapolis Colts last year by suddenly announcing his retirement due to ongoing injury issues. The 30-year-old had already made a fortune and decided to step away after losing his passion for the game with setback after setback. A season later, however, teams in need of a new quarterback might not be wrong to try to lure Luck out of retirement. That is a tough needle to thread, as Luck's health might not never permit him to play a full season of football again -- but it never hurts to ask. With that in mind, these four teams should consider such a move.
4. Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins pick No. 5 overall in 2020, but that may be too high to snag a first-tier quarterback. The current tandem of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen isn't taking the team to great heights any time soon, but signing Luck would instantly make the team upwardly mobile. The team could still take a quarterback reasonably high and let him learn behind one of the best.
3. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears went all-in on Mitchell Trubisky in 2017. Now, the team is reportedly open to other options, and Luck would be the golden goose out of all potentially available players. The team could still keep Trubisky around in any event, but pairing an elite defense with a top-tier QB is too much to pass up. The Bears are already likely to bring in competition for Trubisky this offseason, but a healthy Luck is the kind of guy that could win the job almost as soon as he signed on the dotted line.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay has a tough decision this offseason as to whether or not to re-sign Jameis Winston to a massive extension. His 30-touchdown, 30-interception year in 2019 was alarming, and the Bucs would be nuts not to consider alternatives. Giving Luck a call in addition to Philip Rivers and Tom Brady would not hurt one bit, as he could turn the franchise around right away. One stat Bucs fans may like? Luck never had more than 18 interceptions in a single season
1. Indianapolis Colts
Surpris! The Colts are the obvious answer here. The team turned to Jacoby Brissett when Luck retired last season, and his future with the Colts is currently unclear. The team is seeking all available options, and continuing to check in with Luck is never a bad idea. Indy can see if its former franchise guy wants to pick up where he left off with no hard feelings, and the main selling point would be presenting an offensive line that is actually capable of protecting him this time around.
