Bears Fans Might Flip Out Seeing Mel Kiper's Projected First Draft Pick for Chicago

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace is facing a crucial NFL Draft next week. His big plans to have 2017 No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky be the future of the franchise seem to have failed, and he must now have a great draft in 2020 just to have some job security.
Mel Kiper's latest mock draft dropped Monday, and he has the Bears making quite the questionable decision with their first pick this year. That pick comes at No. 43 overall, and the draft guru believes the team may target tight end Cole Kmet out of Notre Dame.
Mel Kiper Jr. has the #Bears selecting Cole Kmet at pick 43 and K.J. Hamler at pick 50. I had Hamler in the same spot in my latest mock draft. https://t.co/sR9pEa4sEi

Kmet is a 6-6 tight end who ran a 4.7 40-yard dash and is a great receiving threat. The only problem is the Bears already have a remarkable number of tight ends on the roster (they carried four last year) and just signed Jimmy Graham to a two-year, $16 million deal. Graham and Trey Burton would take up a majority of the playing time, based on their salaries, leaving Kmet and the other tight ends in Chicago in a logjam for playing time.
New #Bears TE Jimmy Graham said the "conversations that I had with coach and with Ryan Pace and how they use their tight end ... were just above and beyond."

The Bears drafting Kmet would not be a knock against the player. But fans in Chicago may pull their hair out if Pace adds an overkill tight end to a team that could use help at literally every other position outside of quarterback. This would fit the mold of some of his recent draft decisions and could doom his chances of staying on the job past 2020. Bears fans may riot otherwise.
