Bears Hire Juan Castillo as Offensive Line Coach
By Michael Luciano
The Chicago Bears cleaned house after missing the playoffs in 2019, as they parted ways with offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich and offensive line coach Harry Hiestand.
The hole at offensive line coach has already been filled, as longtime NFL assistant Juan Castillo has been hired by the Bears. Castillo helped get Matt Nagy his start in coaching in Philadelphia, and now Nagy is helping Castillo get back into the NFL.
Castillo is best known for his stint with Andy Reid's Eagles, where he served as offensive line coach from 1998 to 2010. After the Eagles fired Sean McDermott in a move that would come back to haunt them, Castillo was bizarrely chosen as the next defensive coordinator, and was let go after only one-and-a-half seasons in that role.
He spent four years after the firing with John Harbaugh's Ravens, and was the offensive line coach for the last two seasons under McDermott in Buffalo.
Castillo was the architect of a few Pro Bowl careers for over a decade in Philadelphia. He's back to doing what he does best, and an offensive line guru like Castillo should help Mitch Trubisky out after a poor showing in 2019.
