Bears Bring Back Deon Bush After HaHa Clinton-Dix Bolts for Dallas
By Michael Luciano
The Chicago Bears' mighty defense lost one of its starters when safety HaHa Clinton-Dix signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Friday.
Ryan Pace decided not to spend big money on a replacement, instead opting to retain a promising youngster from the last few years on a team-friendly deal. The Bears re-signed safety Deon Bush to a one-year deal worth $1.4 million.
Bush, a former star at Miami, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After recording 22 tackles in his first season in the league, Bush has picked up exactly 22 more over his last three seasons in the league, having been relegated to a backu rolee and special teams duty under Matt Nagy, Vic Fangio, and Chuck Pagano.
While Eddie Jackson is clearly entrenched as the free safety, strong safety is anyone's game right now, and Bush could be guy who ends up winning that job after being brought back by the franchise.
Bush has rarely seen the field over the last few seasons, but he could be in for in increased role in 2020 following the departure of Clinton-Dix. For Chicago's sake, Bush better turn out to be as versatile and physical as Ha Ha was.
