Bears Reportedly Release CB Prince Amukamara and WR Taylor Gabriel
By Michael Luciano
The Chicago Bears are working hard to erase the stink of their disappointing 2019 season, as two players that were often under the microscope have been given their walking papers.
Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and cornerback Prince Amukamara, who have played in Chicago for the last several seasons, have officially been released.
A 5-7 former undrafted free agent, Gabriel regressed in a noticeable way in 2019, as his receptions dropped from 67 to 29 while he had just 353 receiving yards down from 688 yards.
A former first-round pick of the New York Giants out of Nebraska, Amukamara has spent the last three years as a Bear. While his 101 tackles, three interceptions, and 22 passes defended over 2018 and 2019 look like solid numbers, his lack of great speed has made him a frequent target of opposing offensive coordinators.
The small silver lining in these cuts is that Chicago will get $13.5 million in extra cap space they can use to get Mitch Trubisky more weapons on offense.
Both these guys are talented enough to land on their feet and end up with any number of teams who need a slot receiver and cornerback, but they clearly weren't pulling their weight in Chicago. Look for the Bears to find their replacements in the draft.
