Bears Sign Former Packers Fan Favorite Trevor Davis
By Jerry Trotta
Free agent signings just hit different when teams sign players who once plied their trade for a bitter division rival.
The Chicago Bears did just that on Wednesday by inking wide receiver and return specialist Trevor Davis, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, to a one-year contract.
Davis isn't a world-beater by any stretch, but this news has to sting Packers supporters to an extent. The 26-year-old spent three seasons in Green Bay (2016-2018) and was a certified stud in 2017; that year, he did most of his damage on punts, compiling 707 yards on 31 returns, good for an average of 22.8 yards per.
The fit with the Bears, however, is questionable at best. They already boast one of the NFL's most electrifying returners in Cordarrelle Patterson, who led the league with 825 kick return yards last season.
Davis doesn't project to feature much in Chicago's passing game, either, as he's notched just eight receptions for 111 yards in four seasons as a pro.
Bears fans shouldn't be thrilled with the signing, but they can absolutely take the fact that he was a former standout for the Packers as a silver lining.
