Becky Hammon's Cryptic Tweet is Convincing People the Knicks Are Actually Doing Something Cool
By Michael Luciano
San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is the most likely candidate to become the first full-time female head coach in one of the four major American professional sports, and there might be one job in particular she covets.
Hammon posted a picture of the Charging Bull statue near Wall Street in New York City, with the purposefully vague "#mood" serving as the caption. Could this be her signaling her desire to take the New York Knicks head coaching gig?
Hammon, who has been a Spurs assistant since 2014, appears to have been leapfrogged in the Spurs assistant pecking order by Tim Duncan, as it was the legendary power forward who coached the team to a win against the Charlotte Hornets when Gregg Popovich couldn't coach due to personal issues.
Hammon's time as an NBA head coach appears to be drawing nearer, and one way for the Knicks to disperse the miasma of bad PR around Madison Square Garden could be by hiring her.
Hammon would certainly be an out of the box hire for the Knicks, but the team's last several in the box hires have fizzled out. Maybe Hammon is the shot in the arm this franchise needs. All James Dolan needs to do is pull the trigger.
