Behold the 2 Saddest Knicks Free Agency Tweets Imaginable
By Scott Rogust
The New York Knicks set their bar incredibly high for this summer's free agency, and it's all come crashing down in a matter of hours. It hurts deep inside for any fan who bleeds blue and orange.
New York was backed to have a terrific chance to land the first overall pick and draft Zion Williamson; they did not. They were expected to have a great chance to sign big name free agents Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving; they didn't. In reality, Williamson is a New Orleans Pelican, while Durant and Irving will play on the other side of the East River with the Brooklyn Nets.
So, what do Knicks fans have to look forward to to this week during the ongoing free agency frenzy? First off, the Knicks are "furiously working" on a sign-and-trade deal for... wait for it... Golden State Warriors guard Quinn Cook!
Yes, Cook is no Durant or Irving, but he's been receiving serious interest from several teams because the market has simply dried up quickly. The Warriors extended a qualifying offer to Cook, and will have the option to match a rival's offer sheet. But no matter what happens, he's simply not a guy who moves the needle.
That's not all, however, as the Knicks are reportedly laser-focused on Los Angeles Lakers unrestricted free agent Reggie Bullock. Yes, THE Reggie Bullock!!
As with Cook, Bullock's name isn't going to have Knicks fans dancing in the streets of Manhattan. This past season, as a member of the Detroit Pistons and Lakers, Bullock averaged 11.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 29.8 minutes. Bullock's path to wearing a Knicks uniform is far from guaranteed, however, as the Lakers still want to keep him.
With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving off the board, the New York Knicks are looking to build a young roster with quality depth players.
Not the words Knicks fans across the globe want to hear right now.
