Beloved Yankees Symbol Thumbs Down Guy Starts GoFundMe for Help With Medical Bills

The Yankees found themselves a rallying cry in 2017 when they adopted the thumbs down gesture from the now-famous Thumbs Down Guy at Citi Field, who famously displayed his displeasure when the Bronx Bombers hit a home run as the home team on his turf.

He now finds himself in tough times, though. The baseball icon, Gary Dunaier, has started a GoFundMe page to help pay his medical bills.

Dunaier recently underwent an emergency medical procedure after one of his varicose veins burst and knocked him out of commission for five days. Even now that he's out of the hospital, he's still not at full health, and follow-ups and recovery occupy his time.

Needless to say, the expenses of the hospital stay coupled with the lack of time at his job made for a perfect storm of problems that pushed him to call upon the good graces of his fellow baseball fans.

They've responded generously. The campaign has already surpassed its set goal of $2,000, raising over $2,300 on more than 120 donations in 10 days.

Mets and Yankees fans alike have set aside their differences to help a person in their time of need.

The success of the campaign is a touching reminder that even though fandom may divide us at times, we're all humans who are more than willing to lend each other a hand when it's needed most.
