Ben Roethlisberger's Comments Should Carry No Weight in Steelers' Decision to Draft QB Early
After throwing just 62 passes in the 2019 campaign before succumbing to injury, Ben Roethlisberger is hungry to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers offense once again. Big Ben has been chomping at the bit, with his eyes set on another trip to the postseason.
But, let's be real here, folks. How many good years does he have left at age 38? It goes without saying that the Steelers need to prepare for the future. And that future, whether Roethlisberger likes it or not, is right around the corner.
Even Big Ben himself understands there's a good chance Pittsburgh has eyes on selecting a quarterback early next week in the NFL Draft. His comments do come off as a bit passive-aggressive, but hey, the writing is on the wall.
While Roethlisberger will go down in history with two Super Bowl rings and far and away the best stats of any Steelers quarterback ever, he's not getting any younger and is coming off elbow surgery. He's been battling injuries in recent years and hasn't aged quite as beautifully as Tom Brady, that's for sure.
We admire the man's fire, but it's time for the Steelers to prepare for life without No. 7. That's surely coming sooner than most fans in town would want to admit.
