Ben Zobrist Set for Triple-A Appearance on Friday as Cubs Return Looms
By Scott Rogust
Ben Zobrist is inching that much closer to a return with the Chicago Cubs.
After Thursday night's Double-A Tennessee game, Zobrist will be promoted to Triple-A Iowa for Friday and Saturday.
Zobrist has been away from the Cubs since May, after dealing with a very public divorce from his wife, Julianna. Chicago placed him on the restricted list, as he goes through the divorce process, while taking care of his children.
However, the veteran infielder told the Cubs that he'd be available for the final month of the season and fulfill his contractual obligations. Based off his latest move up the minor league system, Zobrist is on track to return to the Windy City in the beginning of September.
In a limited 26 games, Zobrist accumulated a .241 batting average, .343 on-base percentage, and .253 slugging percentage, along with 10 RBI and 12 runs.
Ben Zobrist played a crucial role for the Cubs once the postseason hits, most notably in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series. His return appears to be very imminent, as long as his minor league starts this weekend go well.
