Bengals Free Agent Focus Must Be on Offensive Line
By Jerry Trotta
The Cincinnati Bengals have a myriad of holes on their roster to address, whether it be in free agency or the draft in April.
Their evident tanking efforts in 2019 have positioned them perfectly to select their quarterback of the future with the No.1 overall pick. It's been widely reported that Cincy is dead set on selecting LSU sensation Joe Burrow.
Given how wretched the Bengals offensive line was this past season, the organization's braintrust MUST spend big-time money this offseason rebuilding that unit. Keeping Burrow upright should be the Cincinnati's primary concern.
Yup, $60 million should land them two of the top dogs on the open market.
It will do Burrow absolutely no good if he's constantly wary of getting bludgeoned on his blindside. A competent offensive line is essential to him developing as a quarterback. It would give him the necessary time to read through progressions and adjust on the fly to defensive packages and schemes.
The Bengals already have a nice core of young offensive talent around him in tailback Joe Mixon and wideouts Tyler Boyd, John Ross and Auden Tate. Zero dollars should be spent on those positions.
You could argue Cincinnati's defense needs an overhaul, but the focus is on helping Burrow.
Burrow means everything now and should be protected at all costs, even if it means punting the chance at having a more well-rounded roster.
