This Bengals-Packers Trade for Speedster John Ross Could Give Aaron Rodgers a Much-Needed Deep Threat
By Mark Powell
The Green Bay Packers failed to supply Aaron Rodgers with any weapons on the outside during the NFL Draft, extending his streak of throwing little-to-no passes to first rounders. Instead, they traded up to draft his replacement in Jordan Love.
If the Packers want to get back on Rodgers' good side, they should acquire another shiny toy for him on the trade market.
Thankfully, the Bengals' John Ross could be available.
Ross is a former top-10 pick who just hasn't panned out in Cincinnati. It's tough to pin that on the Bengals, but management is right not to extend him an extra year on little return.
Still, the Washington Huskies product ran a sub-4.3 40-yard dash in the pre-draft process, and would provide a great deep threat for Rodgers alongside the stable production of Davante Adams and the red zone threat of the newly-signed Devin Funchess.
Acquiring Ross wouldn't cost the Packers much. He's started just 19 games in three seasons, and has yet to prove much outside of the fact he can run fast in a track suit. A fifth-round pick should get it done, and even that is purely based on perceived potential.
Everyone wins with this deal, and the Bengals get to move forward from a failed draft pick.
