3 Incredible Anthony Edwards Highlights From a Season Georgia Fans Will Never Forget
By Michael Luciano
After just one season in Athens, star Georgia guard Anthony Edwards announced that he intended to declare for the 2020 NBA Draft, where he is expected to be selected within the first five picks. Even though he played in just 32 college games, he showed Bulldogs fans and the basketball world as a whole why he was worth every bit of hype he earned -- and that the best is yet to come.
3. Capping Off the Arkansas Upset With A Thunderous Slam
Georgia struggled to a 16-16 finish this year, but they posted some few major upsets in SEC play this season, one of their most notable being a close win over Eric Musselman and Arkansas. It was Edwards who put the cherry on top of this 26-point, seven-rebound performance by throwing down a vicious two-handed slam that knocked out the Razorbacks in the final minute.
2. Dunk Of The Year Against Vanderbilt
Edwards' calling card when he gets to the pros will be the rare strength and athleticism he exhibits as a 6-foot-5 guard. Vanderbilt found out exactly how unique his gifts are when he nearly hurdled a Commodore defender before throwing down a rim-rattling slam. Edwards finished this game with 19 points, and the Dawgs ended up escaping Nashville with an 80-78 win.
1. The Michigan State Second-Half Barrage
Edwards was struggling to do much against Tom Izzo and Michigan State in the first half of the Maui Invitational, as he scored just four points in the first 20 minutes. Edwards caught fire in the second half, scoring 33 of his 37 points in the second half. Georgia fell to the Spartans 93-85, but Edwards put up the most valiant of efforts to keep the Bulldogs in the hunt. This was the game that confirmed Edwards is on track to be a star in the NBA.
