3 Best Eagles Players Under 25 Years Old
By Jerry Trotta
When it comes to balance between young and veteran players, there might not be a better roster in the NFL than the Philadelphia Eagles', who have done a tremendous job at accumulating talent in the Draft in recent years. Yes, that includes their polarizing selection of Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round.
That got us thinking of Philly's current core of young players and how talented they really are. Without further ado, here are the Eagles' top players under 25 years old.
3. Andre Dillard
Care to guess why Philadelphia didn't exert much energy to re-sign future Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jason Peters this offseason? Because the team fully trusts 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard to take over the reins at left tackle. Those are massive shoes to fill, but the Washington State product performed admirably as a reserve last season. Expect Dillard to make a huge jump in Year 2, where he figures to start and play heavy snaps.
2. Derek Barnett
We need to see more from Derek Barnett next season, but he absolutely deserves a spot on this list. The fact that he's just 23 years old and is entering his fourth NFL campaign is ludicrous. The former No. 14 overall pick has started 20 games across that span, during which he's registered 67 tackles, 14 sacks and 49 QB hits. Philly recently picked up the fifth-year option on Barnett's rookie contract, so expect him to reward their faith with a booming 2020 season.
1. Miles Sanders
Miles Sanders being No. 1 was a no-brainer. The 2019 second-round pick was electric at all levels, including the return game, as a rookie. He compiled 818 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. The former Penn State star added 50 receptions for 509 yards and three scores in the passing game and really emerged as a security blanket for gunslinger Carson Wentz. The future is bright for Sanders, who figures to be the Eagles' lead RB in 2020 with Jordan Howard no longer around to vulture carries. The 23-year-old seems poised to enjoy a breakout sophomore campaign.
