Biggest Remaining MLB Free Agents Who Will Sign Next
By Jerry Trotta
One of the more captivating Winter Meetings in recent memory saw more than $1 billion in salary guaranteed to a plethora of players. The three top dogs on this year's market -- Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Anthony Rendon -- have all found new homes, but there still remains an abundance of compelling names in the pool, even following Madison Bumgarner's surprising agreement on Sunday evening.
With that in mind, let's highlight some big-name players who will sign in the coming days.
5. Nicholas Castellanos
For some reason, the Cubs are opting not to retain Castellanos, and one lucky club is absolutely going to reap their spoils. As of Sunday, the White Sox, Rangers, and Giants have held discussions with the 27-year-old slugger, who should now be tabbed as one the most coveted players on the market. Don't expect him to hold that title for much longer, however.
4. Marcell Ozuna
Ozuna should absolutely be viewed as one of the best free agents still on the market. His offensive production -- 29 home runs and 89 RBI -- cannot be understated, and he's reportedly garnered the interest of the Braves, Rangers, and White Sox. Don't expect the two-time All-Star to be a FA more much longer.
3. Dallas Keuchel
The importance of left-handed started pitching is priceless in today's day and age, so it's really no wonder that so many teams -- the Angels, Cubs, White Sox, Twins, and Padres -- are reportedly pursuing Keuchel. It's really only a matter of time until your phones vibrate with a Jeff Passan notification of the former AL Cy Young signing a deal.
2. Hyun-Jin Ryu
With Cole and Strasburg off the market, Ryu, alongside a few others, headline the second-tier of free agent starting pitchers, and the list of teams showing interest appears to be growing by the day. Though the Blue Jays and Angels have been the most heavily-linked clubs, the Rangers, Twins, and Cardinals have also inquired about him. With the market shrinking with each passing week, expect Ryu to find a new home this week.
1. Josh Donaldson
There is no shortage of suitors for Donaldson this winter as the Dodgers, Nationals, Phillies, and Twins are all reportedly interested in signing the former AL MVP. Donaldson is fresh off a superb 2019 campaign with the Braves, during which he logged 37 home runs and 96 RBI alongside a 127 OPS+. Given the whopping third base market, expect the 34-year-old slugger to sign very soon. Washington, you want to finish this?
