Bill Belichick Backs Jonathan Jones Amid Crticism for Hit on Josh Allen
By Michael Luciano

The New England Patriots found yet another innovative way to come out on top in a tough road game, as cornerback Jonathan Jones knocked Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen back into last Tuesday with a hit that concussed the QB and forced head coach Sean McDermott to throw backup Matt Barkley to the wolves.
Jones' controversial hit, for which he was not ejected, was supported by Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who said he wouldn't coach Jones to tackle the 6-foot-5, 237-pound Allen any other way.

“I think when a player, when there isn’t really much you can tell him to do differently, then I think you don’t tell him anything,” Belichick said. “I mean Allen’s a big runner, he’s a strong guy, he’s hard to tackle. He certainly broke several tackles against us. Jon turned when he hit him. He didn’t lead with his head."
While Belichick is pleased that Jones gave Allen what he believes is a solid, legal tackle to prevent a first down, McDermott is infuriated that Jones was allowed to remain in the game. McDermott himself is appealing for Jones to get suspended just one day after Bills safety Micah Hyde claims he would have been punished severely if he hit Tom Brady in that same fashion.

As lethal as Jones' hit was, the fact that he was not ejected from this game makes it unlikely that the league will punish him too harshly for what he did against Buffalo.
