Bill Belichick Clearly Panicked About Jarrett Stidham and Pulled Cody Kessler Move
By Michael Luciano
We know that Bill Belichick has a legendarily quick hook, but he might have outdone himself with what he did to the confidence of rookie backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
On Stidham's third professional pass, he overthrew a receiver horribly and hit Jets safety Jamal Adams right in the chest on what swiftly became a pick-six. Not even three days after, Belichick added former Browns and Eagles quarterback Cody Kessler as a new potential backup. Sorry, kid!
For all of Stidham's faults as a passer, he came into that matchup against the Jets with tons of momentum off a strong preseason. The best way to destroy the confidence of a young player is to sign competition following one mistake.
Tom Brady is still 42, and Stidham is presumably going to be the starter, should he get hurt. Rather that nurture him, Belichick has undermined him by bringing in an experienced rival.
Belichick needs to calm down and realize that rookies make mistakes, and they're allowed to make mistakes in a 30-7 game. Instead, he panicked and signed Kessler, which could throw a wrench in the Patriots' QB machine.
