Bill Cowher Says Jameis Winston Would Be a 'Great Fit' for the Steelers and Pittsburgh Fans Are Probably Confused

Jameis Winston and Cam Newton have yet to find jobs, as the initial signing waves of the 2020 NFL offseason have come and gone. While not in desperate need of a quarterback, one of the league's gold star franchises might be a surprisingly solid landing spot for Winston.
According to CBS analyst and former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Pittsburgh might be the best place for Winston at this point in his career.
“I think it’s a great fit,” Cowher said. “If he’s willing to accept a year sitting behind Ben. And maybe it’s two years.”
Mike Tomlin has to know by now that Mason Rudolph, while a solid backup, is not a guy you want leading a team that has a shot at the playoffs should Ben Roethlisberger go down with an injury. Winston, while a turnover machine, has enough skill to lead the NFL in passing yards while throwing 33 touchdowns. There aren't may backup QB options that can produce at that level.
If there was ever a "store brand" version of Roethlisberger's high-risk, high-reward style of play, Winston seems like a player who could fit that billing. Given Roethlisberger's uncertain health and future, adding a player with Jameis' arm talent and experience could give the Steelers more security than Rudolph can provide.
