Bills Offensive Coordinator Has Strong Words for Jake Fromm After 'Elite White' Text Debacle
By Jerry Trotta
Buffalo Bills quarterback Jake Fromm found himself in hot water last week when a text conversation in which he made troubling racial remarks was leaked and made its way to Twitter. In the screenshots, the Georgia product can be seen saying "Just make (guns) very expensive so only elite white people can get them."
Considering the national response to the murder of George Floyd, the 21-year-old rookie was subsequently ripped to shreds on social media, and rightfully so.
Fromm dug himself a pretty deep hole here, and Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll had some strong words for the former Bulldog while speaking to reporters about his massive miscue.
"He knows that he has a lot of work to do to earn the trust of his teammates back," said Daboll. “And I’m a big believer in actions speak louder than words. So I know he’ll be committed to that. He’s got a lot to do to earn the trust and confidence of the players and everyone else in the building back. I know he’ll work hard to do that."
This is going to be an uphill climb for Fromm, who, as a rookie, is already burdened with the task of earning the respect and trust of his teammates. This PR disaster puts the 2020 fifth-round pick well behind the eight ball.
Unlike New Orleans Saints gunslinger Drew Brees -- who had to issue several apologies and statements in order to earn the forgiveness of his teammates for his comments on NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem -- Fromm doesn't have an esteemed reputation. He'll have to work double time to become a respected member of the Bills locker room.
