The Buffalo Bills' grand plan to pair Melvin Gordon with breakout rookie star Devin Singletary vanished into thin air this afternoon.
Gordon, who played the last five seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos after a very public holdout last offseason. The contract wasn't even close to breaking the bank, so the Bills made a huge mistake not making this happen given their ample cap space this offseason.
Breaking: Melvin Gordon reached an agreement on a two-year, $16 million deal that includes $13.5 million guaranteed with the Denver Broncos, as first reported by NFL Network and confirmed by ESPN. pic.twitter.com/0NtmuNpoeF

Now, with the running back market looking extremely barren at the moment, Buffalo should look to former Atlanta Falcons stud Devonta Freeman if they want to find a quality 1-2 punch with Singletary.
While Freeman ran for just 656 yards on 3.8 yards per carry in 2019, he did so in a Dirk Koetter offense that favors the passing and has rarely, if ever, seen a running back put up career numbers.
Physically, Freeman still has his speed, agility and route running ability, making him a threat on the ground and through the air. From a fit standpoint, Buffalo is ideal for Freeman at this point in his career especially considering they could use another contributing veteran on the growing offense.
Everyone spent their energy talking Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley.

Surprised no Bills fans have talked up wanting Devonta Freeman to the Bills
Freeman hasn't looked the same since Kyle Shanahan left for the San Francisco 49ers, but his shifty style of running could serve as a nice complement to Singletary in the Buffalo backfield. With a solid offensive line and a creative OC in Brian Daboll, Buffalo could be near the top of the league's rushing categories with Freeman in the fold next season.
