Bills DT Ed Oliver Arrested on DWI and Gun Charges
By Michael Luciano
From DeAndre Baker and Quinton Dunbar's Grand Theft Auto impression to Cody Latimer's arrest, this has been a turbulent week for the NFL. Unfortunately, a promising player added one more headache to the list.
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was arrested in his native Houston for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was taken to Montgomery County jail.
Oliver, a former first-round pick and 5-star recruit out of Houston, played in all 16 games for the Bills last year, starting seven. He ended the season with 43 tackles and five sacks as part of a loaded Bills defense.
After a 911 call in Houston, Oliver was found driving above the legal limit with an open beer between his legs in the car. A search of his vehicle resulted in authorities finding a pistol.
For a guy who had no character concerns in college, save for one dust-up with his coach, breaking the law like this has to be a major shock for the Bills organization.
In what has already been a troubling week for some of the brightest young stars in the league, Oliver added to that disorder by driving under the influence. Roger Goodell has to be concerned seeing young talents getting into serious trouble with the law like this.
