Bills Reportedly Signing Josh Norman Following Release From Redskins
By Jerry Trotta
It would appear that Josh Norman's connections from his time with the Carolina Panthers has landed him a home fairly early in free agency.
Per NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Buffalo Bills have signed Norman to a one-year, $6 million contract that could reach as much as $8 million with incentives. The 32-year-old cornerback will reunite with Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who was his defensive coordinator for four seasons in Carolina.
Fans in Buffalo hope that this reunion will spark a fire in Norman, who fell of the proverbial cliff last season with the Redskins. The former Pro Bowler was benched down the stretch for giving a laughable effort, and it really came as no surprise that Washington cut him after the season.
Pro Football Focus rated Norman as the No. 111 CB in the NFL for his performance in 2019. The former fifth-round pick conceded a whopping seven touchdowns and was regularly burned by opposing wideouts.
Norman will have to battle for a spot opposite Tre'Davious White, who entered the discussion as one of the league's best CBs with a dominant display last season.
By no means is this a blockbuster move for Buffalo. However, we understand why the franchise opted to take a flyer on Norman. Perhaps a new face and scheme will revitalize the veteran.
