3 Bills Veterans Fighting for Their Jobs After the NFL Draft

The highlight of the Buffalo Bills' 2020 draft class was sending a first-round pick to Minnesota for Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason. Still, the team selected seven players and nearly all of the picks received high grades among pundits and experts -- aside from their decision to take a kicker in the sixth round.

Nonetheless, a busy offseason for the Bills means several veterans on the roster are now fighting for their jobs. Buffalo is now in a wide open AFC East and a few players stand out as those who could get the axe or lose playing time before the start of 2020.

3. Davis Webb

The Bills made the somewhat surprising decision to draft Jake Fromm in the fifth round. He joins a quarterback room headlined by Josh Allen with Matt Barkley as the clear backup. Some fans may have forgotten that Davis Webb is also on the roster after he joined the practice squad last season. Webb's dead cap value is a mere $11,000 and the addition of Fromm makes it only a matter of time before Webb is released.

2. Andre Roberts

The Bills now have 11 receivers on the roster after drafting Gabriel Davis and Isaiah Hodgins. Andre Roberts stands out as someone who may be on the way out after finishing with three receptions in 2019. He did make the Pro Bowl as a kick returner, but he's 32 years old and the Bills may not want to cut ties with a younger player in favor of a kick returner. After all, the modern rules of the NFL hurt the value of kick returners and Roberts did not even have a return touchdown in 2019. Cutting him also saves the team $1 million.

1. T.J. Yeldon

The Bills got used to life without T.J. Yeldon after he rushed for only 63 yards in six games last season. Devin Singletary emerged as a legitimate threat alongside Frank Gore, who is now gone. To address that loss, the Bills used a third-round pick on running back Zack Moss. Releasing Yeldon saves the team $1.4 million and allows Singletary and Moss to receive the bulk of the workload out of the backfield. The front office showed a lack of confidence in Yeldon by taking Moss so high and that could be a sign his time is almost up.
