Blaze Jordan Talks About Being Drafted by Red Sox and Possibility of Signing With Team
By Max Smith
On Wednesday, the Red Sox selected infielder Blaze Jordan with the 89th pick in the MLB Draft. Coming off an outstanding high school career, Jordan will soon need to make a decision. Will he sign with the Red Sox or move on to college at Mississippi State next season? Whatever the case may be, Jordan was ecstatic after being drafted by the Sox this week.
In an interview with MassLive's Chris Cotillo, Jordan said, "Right now, I just feel amazing I got picked by such a great organization like that. It’s a dream come true and I know a lot of kids would love to be in this position and have this choice to make."
Originally, Jordan was projected to go much higher, coming into the Draft ranked as the 42nd best prospect. He slid due to some defensive deficiencies and his commitment to Mississippi State, but the Sox must believe they have a chance to sign him in the coming weeks.
Jordan's power at the plate is what makes him such an exciting prospect. When he was 11, he hit a 395 foot home run at the Texas Rangers ballpark. When he was a freshman in high school, he hit a ball out of the Rangers ballpark. Finally, last season, he won the High School Home Run Derby in front of thousands at the MLB All-Star Game.
If the Sox are able to sign Jordan, it would be an absolute steal. They would be getting an one of the most talented players in the entire draft with the 89th pick.
