Bllls Head Coach Sean McDermott Saying the Patriots Are Still the Favorites in the AFC East is Laughable
By Scott Rogust
In 2020, we've not only seen the fall of the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the form of ESPN's documentary, "The Last Dance," but the crumbling of the New England Patriots. Just like Jerry Krause did with Michael Jordan, the Patriots allowed their best player, Tom Brady, to walk away without even trying to convince him to stay.
It's going to be a down season for the Patriots, but Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott doesn't think so. While speaking with Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, McDermott laughably said that the Patriots are still the favorites to take the AFC East title.
We respect McDermott for being humble, but he's wrong in this assessment.
As everyone knows, a team can only go as far as their quarterback can take them. Let's face it, the Patriots aren't going far without Brady. This is a quarterback who took them to the playoffs 17 times and help them reach the Super Bowl on nine occasions, and they let him trek down to Tampa Bay to join the Buccaneers for nothing.
Now, they expect a 2019 fourth-round selection in Jarrett Stidham to step into Brady's cleats and replicate his success. Sorry, but we're not buying it.
The Bills are drastically improved this offseason. They took their passing game to the next level by trading for Minnesota Vikings star receiver Stefon Diggs. Additionally, their juggernaut defense got even better this offseason by adding edge rushers Mario Addison and AJ Epenesa. Taking that all into consideration, the Bills boast one of the deepest teams in the entire league, and they even made the postseason last year.
You won't say it, Sean, but we'll do it for you -- the Buffalo Bills are the favorites in the AFC East. Case closed, no cap.
