Blue Jays Acquire Righty Reliever Wilmer Font From Mets
By Parker White
The expectation is that the New York Mets are going to be sellers and might make a couple of big trades ahead of the deadline. This one may not qualify on it's own, but Brodie Van Wagenen and Co. have certainly gotten the ball rolling.
On Wednesday, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-handed pitcher Wilmer Font from the Mets for cash considerations.
New York acquired Font from Tampa Bay in May to add depth to their pitching staff, but his stint in Queens ended up being short-lived. In 15 appearances (three starts) in the bigs, he owned a 4.95 ERA.
The 29-year-old has been moved from one team to another, as he began his career with the Texas Rangers and moved to Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Oakland and Tampa Bay. He was also a member of the Jays organization back in 2016.
In 52 career appearances (eight starts), Font owns a 4-5 record with a 6.00 ERA with 82 strikeouts over 96 innings.
Font has the stuff to stick in the big leagues even though he hasn't put up a wealth of individual success. He'll have his chance in Toronto to earn his spot and show what he's capable of.
