Many fans speculated about the status of Ken Giles when he didn't come in to close for the Toronto Blue Jays' 2-1 Saturday afternoon win over the New York Yankees, and now there's an answer as to why.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo revealed that Giles, one of the most highly coveted bullpen arms of the trade deadline, has suffered nerve inflammation as a result of a massage session.

That's...something.

Though he is day-to-day, the injury puts a massive hurt on Giles' trade value just under three weeks from the trade deadline, and it will no doubt be a major red flag for any team looking to acquire him moving forward. He had already landed on the injured list due to elbow inflammation, so this only heightens the concerns of possible suitors.

2019 has arguably been the best season of Giles' career. He's logged a 1.45 ERA in 31 innings of work for the Jays, striking out a truly absurd 53 batters while locking down 13 saves in 14 opportunities.

Seriously, though. A massage-induced injury? Of all the things to throw a wrench into his absurdly good season, that is by far the most ridiculous.

His injury could drastically change how contenders across the league approach the trade deadline. Hopefully it's nothing serious as both he and Montoyo suggest and that Giles can get back to dominating in the ninth soon.
