Blue Jays Place Ken Giles on 10-Day IL With Elbow Inflammation
By Zack Jiang

It seems like nothing could go right for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. Sitting with one of the worst records in the league, the team will be taking another blow, as they will lose their closer due to injury, just ahead of the true start of trade season.
The team recently announced that Ken Giles has been placed on the 10-day IL with right elbow inflammation.

The 28-year-old pitcher has been stellar this season, giving up just three runs in 25 innings pitched. While his absence will hurt the team's chances of winning, it also hurts the team in terms of trade value.
GIles was likely going to be a top trade target for other teams, and would have netted Toronto a nice return for a proven closer. But while this elbow injury develops, in terms of an assessment of severity, there's no telling if there will still be any suitors that will put forth valuable assets.

So that’s why Jackson got a reprieve. Not good if the Jays’s best trade chip isn’t healthy! But, more importantly, Giles has been awesome and fun to watch. Hope he’s back quick.
Giles' injury is short term, so hopefully he can come back and continue to perform at the All-Star level he was at before. Whether it's with the Blue Jays or another team, he will still be valuable player when healthy.
